URBAN Legends

Cryptozoology is always something that's interested me. And recently stemming from a small character/icon design project I did involving the mounted heads of common North American urban legend monster, I decided to go further and build a story around the idea.

Thus I came up with URBAN Legends; basically what would these rare and mythical monster do if they moved to a large city (New York?) and had to get day jobs to survive? I've come up with at least 8 solid character designs, and a few "environment" or shoppe designs for this concept so far, but I may do more:

Character lineup of a few monsters: Mothman (pawn shoppe owner), El Chupacabra (Mexican gangster), Jersey Devil (annoying white-boy from Jersey), & ThunderBird (weatherman)

Bigfoot

Ogopogo and The Loch Ness Monster

The Abominable Snow...woman.

While I'd like to do animations for this (maybe in the future with practice & time), I'm looking to use these ideas and more for a series of short comics featuring each monster. The Jersey Devil seems to be the main character in my books right now, so all stories will probably tied together by him, but I'll keep it under wraps as to how for now.

In the mean time I highly suggest hitting wikipedia for more info on Cryptozoology and mythical monsters, or your local library. Seriously good & fun reading!

Paint & Chair sittin in a tree

One medium I never get sick of is paint, or more specifically my relationship with Acrylics. We've been through the good and the bad and we're still getting to know each other. For me, it's such a fun and versatile medium, my weapon of choice:

Comix

COMICS.
My not so secret love. Here's is just a little of the comics I've done, but be sure it's my main concern.

Fact the Facts preview!
The rest of Face the Facts, a short comic about the serious business of facial hair will be be seen in Popgun! Until then I'm sorry, I can only offer you concept sketches of the Beards gang:
Defense Beard
Charmy Beard
Rogue Beard

Times of Change
A 3 page comic for an anthology!

Comics as big as my hand

Ghosties

Concept/sketch painting before finals

Awhile ago I was left to do 4 narrative environment paintings, and I pulled out an idea I had from a dream. The dream itself really only felt like still scenes, and I just could not forget it; it featured these large, glowing ghostly golems (alliteration!), that rose out of the Earth, much like ancient spirits. In the dream itself, there was simply an air of dread and fear, almost as they were deadly markers, and people didn't know how to handle them. They seemed to bring death at the touch? For the paintings, I expanded upon the idea and added a back story that a war had happened and bombs had been dropped everywhere in a heightened blitz, but hastily made they didn't explode? A couple years past and the unease, of thousands of unexploded bombs, of various sizes everywhere, subsides and people get used to them and even start building over and around them, adjusting. I believe my intentions were that these ghosts rose out of the Earth, one for each bomb, as markers that something may happen soon, and the Earth knows... ?

I plan to do more images based on this one day, perhaps even a comic, but somehow just still images says a lot more for me about this idea.

Drunk

A set of paintings still near and dear to my heart, the subject too. Drinking! Four paintings where I used color and stroke to help enhance the moods coming across, during this timeless act. Acrylics and minimal ink!

Unlike these paintings, please drink responsibly!!
